Consider the Main Functions in the Layout

When you prepare the layout of the kitchen, consider the three main functions: food preparation, clean up, and storage. which are often called the work triangle. Arrange the stove, refrigerator, and sink in a triangle pattern to make the transition between steps easier and save space.

Buy Space-Saving Appliances and Accessories

Space appliances not only save space, but they can also be convenient. A single-bowl sink can give you an extra foot of space, or install an under-mount sink to save even more space.

Some other ideas include pull-out pantries, ceiling-mounted cabinets, garbage compactors, and micro-refrigerators or compact refrigerators. In other words, think what could fit under the counter or be hung on the ceiling or wall. 

Choose Color Schemes Carefully

In a small kitchen, too many colors make it look crowded. A color scheme with colors that closely match will make the room seem spacious. For example, if you plan to paint the walls light yellow, paint the cabinet trim close to the same shade. 

Professional interior designers often suggest white for small rooms to make seamless areas and to better reflect light. Overall, think low contrast, neutral or monochromatic color schemes.

Add the Right Lighting

The correct lighting is another important component in small kitchen remodeling since bad lighting can make the room appear smaller. You don’t want the lighting to be too bright or too dim, and you need to consider efficiency. 

Use layered ambient, accent, and task lighting to combat this problem, which will provide adequate lighting with a pleasant atmosphere and cut costs. Accent lighting includes sconces and track lights, and ambient light can come from a ceiling fixture. Examples of task lighting are under cabinet lights or directional lights installed above the sink.
